Lacey barrettes

I have a passion for all things DIY I swear! And I just love the idea of this one! I can't remember where I saw this...but when I do, I'll mention it on here. Things you will need: lace or ribbon spool, felt, button, barrettethread and needle, scissors and hot glue gun. All of these I purchased at a craft store.

The ribbon and lace I chose.

The first step is to trace a 1in. to 1 1/2 in. circle on your felt using a bright colored pencil (white, yellow or pink should work fine).

After cutting out your circle, trace hot glue around edges and place ribbon or lace. Do this in sections so glue does not dry.

One row finished. Continue placing ribbon working towards center of felt.

Almost complete. This is what it should look like so far. Make sure glue is dry!

Next you will use the thread and needle to sew on your button. I used a flower button. You could even go without one if you wanted. It is your barrette! (for added hold use a little glue underneath button)

Next you will hot glue the bottom of your felt to the top of the barrette. Let it dry for a minute or two.

You're finished!

I did the same thing here, except creased the ribbon as I placed it around the felt.

I had a lot of fun making these! I'm sure a lot of you would too! They are very easy to make. But I do caution that you can easily burn your fingers on the glue!! I did a few times, so be careful! Also, plan to repaint your nails afterwards, when the glue gets on them, which it will, it peels off your polish! Sorry I didn't have time to photograph myself wearing them, I'll include some in tomorrow's post! If anyone makes their own barrettes feel free to email me them or link me them! I would love to see every ones creations!

I decided to switch over to my camera today, it's just a Nikon Coolpix 8.0 megapixel. I've been using my iPhone for photos and using apps to spruce them up. But I decided I want my photos clearer. I'm going to try to get better at taking photos. I did take an advanced photography class, I should find those skills again! I'm thinking about purchasing a tripod, I definitely need one!! Well ta!

  1. Yay, I'd love to see what they look like in the hair :) as soon as I get a chance I'm going to try to make these. I might make them as a brooch too as I think it would look really nice pinned onto bag or something :) x
